Hemsjuk is a digital novel set in 1960's Nyänget, Sweden about species of faerie called the Långben. In the middle of the Cold War, Ximena Qaliyun has moved to a family friend's home in Sweden from her home in Mongolia after both of her parents came down with scarlet fever at the same time. The Soviets and the Western bloc are competing for the status as leader in the scientific world, and are experimenting on the species known as the Långben. However, the Långben have been hunted to near extinction in previous years for their magic. Rumors have it that the last Långben (Den Sista Långben) is being held by the Swedish government and used to sniff out its other kin. As the war drags on, Ximena relies on her curiosity to keep her company. In fact, its this curiosity that leads her to an injured bird, unaware the government is after it.
